As an apprentice you’ll be paid an hourly wage like any other employee. The apprenticeship minimum wage is £6.40 p/h, however we are a part of the Decent Wage Pledge, meaning that many of employers pay more than this. Not only this, but you are also a paid your time learning, and the apprenticeship wage only applies for the first year of your apprenticeship. After 12 months you’ll need to be paid at least the minimum wage for your age!
As an apprentice you’ll need to spend 6 hours of your regular working week, training, shadowing or learning. This is all takes place in your working hours, that’s where the phrase “earn while you learn” comes from!
Apprenticeships are typically available to anyone over the age of 16, whether you’re finishing school, college, or already in the workforce looking to upskill.
The duration of an apprenticeship can range from 1 to 5 years, depending on the apprenticeship level and complexity of the role.
