From Digital Marketing Apprentice to Nature Filmmaker

We caught up with apprenticeship achiever Harvey Pringle to find out what he’s been up to since completing his Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprenticeship.

So Harvey, could you please start by introducing yourself?

Hello! I’m Harvey. At the age of 24, I’m currently  immersed in studying marine and natural history photography at Falmouth university—a far cry from the path I initially envisioned. My journey into adulthood has been anything but conventional. At 18, as I finished college, I decided that university wasn’t the right fit at the time. Instead, I entered the world of full-time work, spending a few years jumping between roles, searching for a career that resonated with my passions. At 21, I discovered a digital marketing apprenticeship with a local engineering company—a role that perfectly combined my love of technology, my decade-long passion for photography, and my experience with video production. This marked the beginning of a new chapter for me, one that would ultimately bridge the gap between my creative pursuits and professional aspirations.

You began a Digital Marketing Apprenticeship at Hepcomotion, How was the first 3 months?

The first three months of my digital marketing apprenticeship at Hepcomotion were incredible. Although I initially felt daunted and unsure of what to expect, the support from the Professional Apprenticeships team was exceptional from the very beginning. When I started, my mum was in an accident and ended up in hospital—a very challenging time for my family. I vividly remember receiving a phone call from one of the directors at Professional Apprenticeships, which truly demonstrated how much the company cared about my well-being. The apprenticeship itself was extremely well-organised, with clear guidance on what needed to be done and when. The workload was manageable, and my tutor was always accessible via email to answer any questions or provide support. This solid foundation made the transition into the role much smoother than I anticipated.

How did your tutor support you throughout your Apprenticeship?

My tutor, Yasin, was a fantastic source of support throughout my apprenticeship. Incredibly friendly and approachable, he made it easy to ask questions—no matter how big or small. We held regular one-to-one Zoom meetings to review my progress and ensure I was staying on track with my work, which gave me a clear sense of direction. Yasin’s deep knowledge of the subject was evident, and he provided excellent advice, especially in the lead-up to my exams and live brief. His guidance and encouragement played a key role in helping me feel confident and prepared at every stage of the apprenticeship.

You completed your apprenticeship at Hepocomotion – What came next?

After completing my apprenticeship at Hepcomotion, I had developed the skills and knowledge needed for a long and successful career in marketing. I continued to build on this foundation by studying a Level 5 Professional Diploma in Search Marketing, which opened the door for me to join a marketing agency as their SEO specialist. However, during this time, I took a step back to reflect on my ultimate aspirations. It had always been my dream to become a filmmaker for nature documentaries, inspired by the work of David Attenborough. My apprenticeship gave me the confidence to take the leap and finally pursue that dream by enrolling at university to study marine and natural history photography. The skills I gained from the digital marketing apprenticeship remain invaluable, especially as I plan to market myself and my services as a freelance camera operator after university. From website design to SEO, email marketing, and social media campaigns, this knowledge will be essential in building my brand and securing work in my field.

What would you say to anyone considering an Apprenticeship and using Professional Apprenticeships?

I couldn’t recommend apprenticeships enough for anyone considering an alternative to traditional education. Apprenticeships offer a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience, working in real-world environments that simply can’t be replicated in a university setting. For anyone looking to start this journey, Professional Apprenticeships is absolutely the place to go. They are incredibly supportive, highly knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about helping their apprentices succeed. Their dedication to their students’ personal and professional growth sets them apart and makes the experience both rewarding and empowering.
