So Charlotte, could you please start by introducing yourself?
Hi, my name is Charlotte. I recently completed a Digital Marketing Apprenticeship with Professional Apprenticeships. Before this, I was planning to go to university to study photography after taking a gap year. During this, I traveled across Southeast Asia and went inter-railing. However, before committing to university, I explored other options that would allow me to gain an education without the expense and came across apprenticeships. Digital Marketing stood out to me as it involves knowledge that I learnt from two subjects I loved at A-level: psychology, which focuses on understanding user behaviour and perception and photography which taps into creativity and visual communication.
You began a Digital Marketing Apprenticeship at Holly Hextall, How was the first 3 months?
The company I worked for was a stone supplier so it was important for me to quickly familiarise myself with their products. Early on, my boss asked me to create a stone manual for other staff members which turned out to be incredibly helpful for building my product knowledge. After all, you can’t market a product without fully understanding it and its target audience!
The apprenticeship started with tasks designed to help me understand both the company’s ethos and my own learning style, strengths and areas for improvement. I found that we were learning areas of the course almost right away which meant that from the outset, I was able to learn and apply new skills directly to my job.
How did your tutor support you throughout your Apprenticeship?
My tutor, Yatin, was fantastic throughout the entire apprenticeship. Not only did he teach the course content but he also supported me with my job role itself by asking about how and what I was doing and what I could do more of. Whenever I had questions or encountered setbacks, he provided solutions and guidance which made a huge difference. As a teacher, he made the learning entertaining and easy to understand. He also knew the course inside out and made sure that I was prepared for the course exams and assessments which gave me confidence.
You completed your apprenticeship at Holly Hextall – Whats next?
I’ve recently started a new role as a Digital Marketing Coordinator at a Women’s golf wear company called Famara, which is based near me. In this role, I’m involved in social media management, creating and executing email campaigns and providing administrative support. I’m really excited about this opportunity and love the company’s ethos. It feels like a brilliant next step in my career.
What would you say to anyone considering an Apprenticeship and using Professional Apprenticeships?
I would say that apprenticeships are an excellent option, especially for people who thrive as practical learners. I found that you naturally pick up additional skills and problem-solving abilities as you navigate real-world challenges in the workplace.
Professional Apprenticeships are fantastic training providers. The course I completed was engaging and highly relevant to my role and as I mentioned, my tutor was brilliant. Apprenticeships provide a foundation of knowledge that can open doors to exciting opportunities, whether that’s entering the industry or pursuing further education.
I’m grateful for the experience, as it has not only taught me valuable skills but also set me up for a career I’m genuinely passionate about. If you’re considering an apprenticeship, I’d recommend it—it’s a brilliant next step for your future and you gain knowledge from it if nothing else!
