5 revision tips to survive your first digital marketing exam.

I’m Charlotte the Digital Marketing apprentice, now five months in working for Professional Apprenticeships. That means I’ve had 5 training sessions, 5 1-2-1’s with my tutor, 2 progress reviews and over 70 hours of studying on Get to Gateway – I’ve now completed my first exam, keep reading for my tips for revising and to find out how I got on!

Here’s some background information so you understand where I’m at on my apprenticeship journey…

To complete a Digital Marketing apprenticeship you must study, revise, and pass three exams (excluding the End Point Assessment), these are The Principles of Online and Offline Marketing, Google Analytics IQ, and Coding. The Principles of Online and Offline Marketing is the first exam an apprentice must take. The exam itself is taken online in an exam environment, where you have just over an hour to complete 35 multiple choice questions. Passing the exam shows that the apprentice understands a broad overview of marketing from a business perspective, in areas such as the customer lifecycle, marketing campaigns and channels.

My 5 revision tips:

Have a dedicated time and place

Having a dedicated time and place means there are no excuses not to study and revise! I get a Friday morning to study and revise, and I do this from home, so it means I have little distractions, allowing me to focus and concentrate.

Practice exam

Once I have studied and revised the topics which are in my first exam, I would complete a practice exam on Get to Gateway. It’s a good way to test my knowledge to see if I’ve understood what I’ve been studying, but I can also get familiar with the layout of the exam and the wording of the questions – helping me feel more prepared on the day!

Feedback from tutor

Once I have the results from my practice exam, my tutor will look and see what my weakest areas are and therefore they’re areas I need to do some extra revision on before the actual exam.

Create mind maps

Using A4 paper and lots of colourful pens I create mind maps for each topic in the exam. I write down the important points and facts; using colour helps the key information stand out, which helps me remember them long term.

Get in the mindset

An hour before my exam I will leave my desk and go sit in a quiet area to look over the mind maps I previously created. This helps me get in the ‘zone’ making me feel a lot calmer and more confident going into the exam.

I took my exam on the 8th December and passed with 83%! This is one milestone down with two more to go!
